For Afrini Hossain, Winona State University has been more than a place of learning — it’s been a transformative chapter of her life. Originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh, Afrini came to Winona State seeking a high-quality education and a supportive environment where she could thrive.

“I chose Winona State because of its strong academic programs, affordability, and commitment to student success,” she said. “The small class sizes and beautiful campus made it feel like the right place for me.”

After earning her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from WSU in 2024 — where she also served as the student speaker for her undergraduate graduation ceremony — Afrini continued on to graduate school. Now graduating with a Master of Science in Human Services Professional, she reflects on the deep sense of purpose that led her to this field.

“I’ve always wanted to help people and make a difference,” she shared. “The Human Services program combined psychology, social work, and practical experience in a way that prepared me to support diverse communities and advocate for change.”

Her time at Winona State was marked by meaningful relationships and growth.

“As an international student, I arrived with excitement but also uncertainty,” Afrini said. “What made all the difference was the love and support I received—from classmates, professors, and the university itself.”

Afrini’s journey wasn’t without challenges. She faced moments of doubt and the pressure of navigating a new culture and academic system. But through it all, she learned resilience and grace.
After graduation, Afrini plans to work in the human services field and later pursue a Ph.D.

“I’m passionate about creating positive change,” she said.

Afrini is proud to graduate from Winona State, a place that helped her find her voice and purpose.
Her advice to future Warriors? “Don’t rush through it — be present. Be open to change, and remember that every step forward counts.”
