Winona State University’s College of Science and Engineering has received a $20,000 scholarship award from Xcel Energy to support students pursuing degrees in Engineering and Environmental Science.
The funding will provide financial assistance to students in disciplines that are critical to advancing sustainability and innovation.
Aligning with Winona State University’s mission to expand access and opportunity for all learners, the scholarship prioritizes income-qualified students, particularly those historically underrepresented in STEM.
This year’s four scholarship recipients, two students majoring in Composite Materials Engineering and two in Environmental Science disciplines, were selected based on academic achievement, financial need, personal resilience, and their demonstrated commitment to sustainability.
For Biology and Environmental Science student Emma Oden, the scholarship means more financial freedom to focus on internships and campus opportunities that help shape her future.
“Most importantly, this award motivates me to work even harder in my studies and make the most of this incredible opportunity,” said Oden.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment between Xcel Energy and Winona State to foster educational equity and empower the next generation of leaders in energy and environmental stewardship.
“Receiving this support means a great deal to me,” said Owen Paulson, a Composite Materials Engineering Major. “I am committed to furthering my education and look forward to the opportunity to give back to the community in the future.”
“We are deeply grateful for Xcel Energy’s continued partnership and commitment to energy conservation, equity, and education,” said Dean of College of Science and Engineering, Nicole Williams.
