Winona State University has earned recognition as a 2025 Tree Campus Higher Education for the eleventh year in a row by the Arbor Day Foundation.
Tree Campus Higher Ed, a national program launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation, honors universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.
“When I first toured Winona State, the beauty and community-feel of the campus sealed the deal for me,” said Jaidyn Brower, a Marketing and Finance student from Stewartville, Minn. “The trees and open lawns on campus create an atmosphere that feels welcoming, brings a sense of calm, and pulls people together outdoors naturally.”
To earn the designation, Winona State met the program’s five core standards: maintaining a tree advisory committee, a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance, and student-service-learning projects.
“The Landscape Arboretum at WSU is proud to be one of only two college campuses in Minnesota to receive this prestigious recognition,” said Nathan Anderson, Landscape Arboretum Director. “Earning the Tree Campus Higher Education designation highlights our unwavering commitment to creating sustainable, beautiful outdoor spaces that foster a healthy environment for our students, staff, and faculty.”
