Winona State University is excited to announce that Susan Anderson, Class of 1967, will match up to $25,000 in donations for Winona State Giving Day on Thursday, Feb. 20. This generous challenge will double the impact of donations made during the 24-hour event, benefiting scholarships, academic programs, and campus initiatives.
Susan Anderson, a longtime supporter of Winona State, began her philanthropic journey with a scholarship program and has since expanded her support across the university. Her contributions now reach areas such as Athletics, the Warrior Cupboard, Nursing, and student support services. Through this Giving Day challenge, Anderson aims to engage students, alumni, and friends of university, encouraging them to come together for a day of giving.
“It’s important to get students involved and see alumni being a part of campus,” said Anderson. “By doing things, you are advancing a cause, letting people know they have value and that their programs have value.”
Giving Day is a community-wide event designed to raise funds for the areas of campus that mean the most to Winona State students. Throughout the day, a variety of challenges will be held to motivate students, faculty, and staff to engage, including competitions between student organizations, trivia, and jeopardy-style games. These challenges offer the chance to earn additional funds for areas across campus.
“Susan has always been in tune with the needs of our campus,” said Robbie Christiano, Director of Development at Winona State. “Her long-standing commitment to WSU has made a tremendous impact. We are thrilled to have her leading the charge for Giving Day, and we encourage everyone to participate and make the biggest impact possible for our students.”
Donors can direct their gifts to the area of campus they feel most passionate about, whether it’s a specific college, department, or program. In addition to the dollar-for-dollar match, Anderson has pledged additional funds that will be unlocked throughout the day based on various giving milestones.
Highlights of Giving Day include:
- The first gift of the day unlocks $500
- Gifts at specific hours will unlock $500 each (6AM, 8AM, 10AM, 12PM, 2PM, 4PM, 6PM, and 8PM)
- The student organization, department, and athletic team with the most donors or funds raised will each unlock $500
- A special $1,858 gift will be unlocked by the first donation after 6:58 PM
- The first college to raise $1,000 will unlock an additional $1,000 for that college
“Giving Day is a wonderful opportunity to support our students and create lasting change on campus,” said Jessica Rossignol, Associate Director of Annual Giving. “We are so grateful for Susan’s leadership in making this day even more impactful.”
