The Winona State University CLASP Series will present “Introduction to Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR),” from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Memorial Hall, room 300.
Erica Thibodeaux, health and wellness promotions coordinator, will present how the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society pioneered the integration of mindfulness meditation and other mindfulness-based approaches in mainstream medicine and healthcare through patient care; research; and academic, medical and professional education for more than three decades. The center has furthered these endeavors in the broader society through diverse outreach and public service initiatives.
During this interactive lecture, attendees will participate in four types of meditation: sitting, walking, eating and body scan relaxation. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes.
Thibodeaux has studied meditation for 15 years. She currently facilitates mindfulness sessions to students through health and wellness programming and to community members as a volunteer at the Winona Senior Center.
CLASP, the Consortium for Liberal Arts and Science Promotion, is intended to promote interdisciplinary discussion and exchange with presentations aimed at a general audience of students, faculty and the community. The CLASP Series was created to bring the WSU community and the greater Winona community together around a common theme.
This event is free and open to the public.
