The Winona State University Counselor Education Department (CED) received a $5,000 Professional Identity Award from the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC).
The award recognizes the faculty’s excellence in and commitment to promoting counselor professional identity. WSU’s CED is one of only three Counselor Education departments nationwide to receive the award.
Veronica Johnson, assistant professor of Counselor Education, said, “The CED faculty are honored to receive this award and excited about the opportunities the award will allow us to provide for our students. We are committed to promoting counselor professional identity, and it’s wonderful to be recognized for the work that we do.”
NBCC created the award in 2009 to celebrate the programs and faculty preparing the world’s future mental health and school counselors. NBCC sets rigorous standards for the counseling profession and aims to support programs and faculty that exceed those standards. The recipients of this award exemplify the highest training standards in the profession.
The mission of WSU’s CED is to prepare effective counselors, leaders and agents of change in a variety of professional counseling settings. The department is committed to multicultural education and to preparing students for respectful, responsible work with clients reflecting the broad diversity of society.
