WSU Campus

Winona State University is again recognized as one of the country’s most environmentally responsible colleges in the 2014 edition of “The Princeton Review’s Guide to 332 Green Colleges.”

As an institution, WSU is committed to building and supporting a sustainable society. From campus infrastructure to course and program offerings, to student housing the university community works to practice and promote sustainable living. Examples include the Sustainability House, participation in the annual nationwide “Recyclemania” competition, and the Purple Bike program and annual Bike Week celebration. In addition, the 2014-15 university theme, “Sustainable Futures,” will further hone this focus, exploring what sustainability means and why it’s important as a goal on campus and across the globe.

This is the fifth consecutive year WSU has been recognized as a “green” college. Of the 332 colleges named to the list, only seven are in Minnesota. WSU is the only member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system to receive this designation.

“The Princeton Review’s Guide to 332 Green Colleges” was created by The Princeton Review in partnership with the U.S. Green Council. Ratings were compiled based on the results of a 2013 survey of 832 institutions of higher education. The survey examined sustainability-related policies, practices, and programs, and compiled “green ratings” from 60 to 99. The schools featured in “The Princeton Review’s Guide to 332 Green Colleges” received scores of 83 or above. The free guide can be downloaded at www.princetonreview.com/green-guide.
