Winona State University will celebrate Arbor Day and the dedication of the WSU Arboretum from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, on the Winona State campus.

The dedication of the WSU Arboretum recognizes the university’s history of providing an environment that supports public enjoyment, education, recreation and research. The Arboretum will function as a living classroom and laboratory and help the university to maintain the campus grounds for generations to come.

The celebration will kick off with a ceremonial tree planting in front of Phelps Hall with second grade students from Jefferson Elementary, followed by a puppet show, “Conserving the Pollinators,” at 10 a.m. in the Student Activities Center, Kryzsko Commons. Members of WSU’s Environmental Club will then lead the elementary students in planting seedlings in the WSU Greenhouse at 10:45 a.m.

The Arboretum Dedication will take place at 11:30 a.m. in the Student Activities Center, Kryzsko Commons and feature comments from WSU President Scott Olson. Live music performed by Gravy Train will follow the official unveiling of the Arboretum signage.

At 12:30 p.m. the Winona Fire Department will assist with a controlled burn in the prairie garden behind the Science Laboratory Center, followed by Campus Tree Tours and tours of the Native Prairie Garden outside the Integrated Wellness Complex.

All events are free and open to the public.
