SowahMensahWinona State International Music Series will present “Drumming and Music of Ghana” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, in the Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Sowah Mensah, ethnomusicologist, composer, and “Master Drummer,” will perform on a variety of instruments along with several members of his African Music Ensemble. Mensah has taught music in both Ghana and Nigeria and is currently a music professor at Macalester College and the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., where he directs each school’s African Music Ensemble. He directs the African American Ensemble at the University of Minnesota and Sankofa, a Ghanaian Folklore and Dance Ensemble in the Twin Cities. Mensa has performed extensively in the United States, Latin America, and Africa.

The performance is free and open to the public.
