WSU-2013-Rogers-Patricia

Dr. Patricia L. Rogers

Patricia Rogers has joined Winona State University as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, effective July 15, 2013.

Rogers relayed her excitement at becoming a part of the Winona State community. “In my 27 years in higher education, I have experienced a wide variety of campus cultures and communities from many different vantage points: staff member, researcher, faculty member, HLC peer-evaluator, dean,” she said. “I can say with great certainty that it is rare to find a university culture and community as attractive, vibrant, and successful as that which we enjoy here at WSU and at WSU-Rochester.”

Rogers plans to spend her first few months at WSU getting to know the campus and community, finding out what matters most to us, and identifying how she can contribute to building on traditions, exploring new ideas, and creating the future of our academic mission.

Rogers comes from Bemidji State University where she has served since 2007 as the Dean and Interim Dean for the College of Health Science and Human Ecology and the School of Graduate Studies. While on leave from Bemidji State during the 2006-2007 academic year, she served as the Founding Dean for the School of Education and Graduate Studies at Valley City State University in North Dakota. Other positions Rogers has held include: Full Professor (2001-2006) and Assistant/Associate professor (1996-1999) at Bemidji State University; Chair of the Minnesota Online Council (2004) and Interim System Director for Instructional Technology (1999-2000) for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities; and Cancer Researcher for the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (1986-1996).

Rogers holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in art education and a Ph.D. in two programs: instructional systems and technology, and art education, from the University of Minnesota.

“Dr. Rogers brings valued expertise to Winona State University,” says WSU President Scott Olson. “Her understanding of how Minnesota state universities operate and her experience with building and supporting new academic initiatives prepare her to take on this new leadership role.”

Rogers replaces Nancy Jannik, who served as Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs 2011-2013. According to Olson, Jannik provided valuable leadership and continuity during a period of transition for the university.
