WSU-2013-Malaria-Hysteria copyStudents from Winona State University’s Spring 2013 parasitology class will raise awareness and funds for malaria prevention by hosting the Malaria Hysteria 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Hiawatha Valley Marine Shelter on West Lake.

Malaria Hysteria will raise money to donate bed nets to an orphanage in Tanzania through a combination of corporate sponsorship and race registration fees.

This run will be held around the small lake, which is roughly 1.7 miles around. Runners will begin near the Hiawatha Valley Marine Shelter and make two laps of the lake, ending at the shelter where food and refreshments will be provided.

This event is open to the public, and the cost to participate is $10. The registration deadline is April 20. T-shirt is included with registration.

A registration table will be set up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, April 15 through Friday, April 19, in front of the Jack Kane cafeteria in Kryzsko Commons. Day of and online registration through the Facebook event page is also available.
