WSU-2013-Lyceum-PaulusThe Winona State University Lyceum Series will host composer Stephen Paulus for a public talk at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, in the Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center.

A reception in the PAC lobby will follow Paulus’s talk.

This event is free and open to the public.

Paulus will visit WSU as part of a Guest Artist Residency in conjunction with the WSU Music Department’s Gala Weekend April 19-21.

Internationally known, Paulus has been hailed by The New Yorker as “… a bright, fluent inventor with a ready lyric gift.” His prolific output of more than two hundred works is represented in many genres, including music for orchestra, chorus, chamber ensembles, solo voice and keyboard. Paulus is one of the most frequently recorded contemporary composers, with his music represented on more than fifty recordings.

Paulus, a native of Minnesota, is an alumnus of Macalester College and the University of Minnesota—Twin Cities. He now lives in St. Paul.

Paul Vance, professor of music at WSU, indicated it was important to him to introduce audiences in Winona to the work of American composers. “We feel it’s important […] to bring in a composer living and working in our region,” he said.

The Lyceum Series aims to provide unique cultural enrichment and educational opportunities for the Winona and Rochester campus communities.
