BikeWeek_Story_ImageWinona State University will host the sixth annual Bike Week April 15-19.

Bike Week 2013 will promote bicycling at Winona State University and in the Winona community. The goal is to reduce reliance on fossil fuels by promoting bicycling habits.

The primary feature of Bike Week, “Pump Up Your Bike,” will take place from noon to 3 p.m. daily at the Alumni Gazebo in the middle of the WSU campus. Student volunteers from WSU’s Environmental Club will help bicyclists pump up tires, oil bike chains and adjust brakes. Students can enter a drawing to win bike helmets, bike lights, and a Trek bike.

Throughout Bike Week, those who park their bikes on campus may receive a surprise visit from the Bike Phantom. This mysterious masked figure connects bicyclists with a small reward for taking two wheels to campus. In addition, WSU students may enter to win prizes donated by the Environmental Club, Student Senate, Kolter Bicycle and Fitness and Adventure Cycle and Ski.

Bike Week is free and open to the public.

Bike Week is sponsored by the WSU Environmental Club, Student Senate, the Winonan, the Bike Station, the Sustainability Committee, Adventure Cycle & Ski, and Kolter Bicycle and Fitness.
