The Winona State University Department of Theatre and Dance will present the 46th annual children’s show, “Straw Into Gold: The Classic Tale of Rumpelstiltskin,” by Sally Netzel at 7 p.m. Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6, in the Main Stage of the Performing Arts Center.

This classic story features a group of high-energy actors who discover a playground with costumes and set pieces and decide to put on a show. The actors experiment with a few tricks and hiccups, but eventually succeed in telling the story of Rumpelstiltskin. Turning straw into gold onstage is just one of the tricks director Vivian Fusillo has created.

“Straw Into Gold” promises a one-hour performance of family fun and audience participation for all ages on an exciting set with wild costumes.

A coloring contest is being held for children ages 1-14. The winner of the contest will be announced after the last show and on the Theatre and Dance website. The winner will receive a special prize from the production’s cast and crew. Coloring pages can be picked up at the Winona Public Library.

In addition to the public performances, matinees for elementary schools will be held at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. April 2-5.

Tickets are $10 for the public, $6 for students, and $4 for children 14 and under. Purchase online at www.winona.edu/thad or call the Box Office at 507-457-5235.
