strut

The Winona State University Department of Music will present a one-night-only performance of “The All Night Strut!” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, on the Main Stage of the Performing Arts Center.

Directed by Harry and Lauren Mechell, this classy yet sassy musical show celebrates the 1930s and 40s through 29 fast-paced songs in two acts. From the funky jive of Harlem to the sophisticated elegance of El Morocco, this evening will be filled with jazz, blues, bebop and classic songs.

Traditionally an international hit, “The All Night Strut!” includes famous songs like “Minnie the Moocher,” “In the Mood,” “Beat Me, Daddy, Eight to the Bar,” “Hit That Jive, Jack,” “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” “Operator” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing If You Ain’t Got That Swing.”

The strut will be performed by the WSU Concert Choir, accompanied by Sandy Todd on piano, Lauren Mechell on keyboard, Larry Bergin on drums and Jerry Paulson on trumpet.

Heather Williams, assistant professor of the Department of Theatre and Dance, choreographed the strut.

Randy Shadle with Chartwells will serve an assortment of elegant desserts during intermission.

Tickets are $25 for the public and $12 for WSU students with an I.D. Tickets include both the performance and intermission refreshments. Tickets are available at www.winona.edu/arts or by calling the Box Office at 507-457-5235.
