WSU-2012-Rugby

The Winona State Women’s Rugby team, the Black Katts, is ranked number 1 in the nation.

The Winona State University women’s rugby team, the Black Katts, is ranked number one in the nation for the first time in its 20-year history.

Last year the Black Katts played in the Division II Women’s Rugby Championship. This year the team won its fifth-consecutive All Minnesota Collegiate Tournament, which included defeating some Division I teams. The Black Katts’ season record of seven wins, zero losses, led to being ranked number one in Division II women’s college rugby in the first published ranking of the season.

The Black Katts are currently fundraising for travel to their fourth consecutive trip to the playoffs in spring 2013. To contribute, the Winona State Women’s Rugby “Strength and Beauty” calendar can be purchased for $25, either online from the WSU Bookstore for $25 or through Coach Roger Riley, Department of RTTR, Memorial Hall 116, WSU, Winona, MN 55987. Checks should be made out to: Black Katt Athletic.

The team is led by coaches Riley and Joshua Krzewinksi.
