The Winona State University Midwest Music Fest Club will feature live music by Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in the Smaug, Kryzsko Commons.

Since her arrival in Minneapolis during the fall of 2006 as an 18-year-old singer/songwriter, Caroline Smith has become a celebrated part of the Midwest artist community. Her career began as a solo artist with a residency at the 400 Bar in Minneapolis, a venue pivotal in shaping the careers of Elliott Smith, Conor Oberst and local hero Mason Jennings. Here, she developed an independent sound, characterized by simple chord structures supporting sweet pop vocal melodies.

In 2007, Smith joined forces with drummer Arlen Peiffer (Cloud Cult), bassist Jesse Schuster and pianist David Earl, becoming the Goodnight Sleeps.

In August 2008, Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps released their full-length debut, Backyard Tent Set.

Most recently, Caroline Smith and company released a new full-length album, Little Wind, recorded at the Terrarium in Minneapolis.

This event is free and open to the public. Jaybone Bell will open from 5-5:30 p.m.
